Apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme — typical upgrade funded by the scheme

What it covers

  • Air source heat pump
  • Ground source heat pump
  • Biomass boiler (rural only)

Who qualifies

  • You own the property in England or Wales (homes and small non-domestic buildings)
  • You're replacing fossil-fuel heating — oil, gas, LPG or electric
  • You have a valid EPC with no outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations

How to apply

  1. 1. Find an MCS-certified installer and get a quote
  2. 2. The installer applies for the grant on your behalf
  3. 3. The grant value is taken straight off your quoted price

What it covers

  • Loft, cavity and solid wall insulation
  • Boiler repair or replacement
  • Heat pumps and solar PV

Who qualifies

  • Someone in the household receives a qualifying means-tested benefit
  • Your home is rated EPC band D to G
  • Councils can also refer low-income households under ECO4 Flex

How to apply

  1. 1. Check the benefits list, or ask your council about an ECO4 Flex referral
  2. 2. Contact your energy supplier or an Ofgem-registered ECO installer
  3. 3. A surveyor assesses the home and specifies the measures

  • The property is in a participating local authority area in England
  • Household income under £36,000, or the home sits in a low-income postcode area
  • The home is privately owned or privately rented, rated EPC D to G
