Do you need to apply to ScottishPower?
Your home's location and eligibility route decide the process. ScottishPower serves customers outside Scotland, so its name does not determine which national rules apply. England and Wales use an automatic Core Group. Scotland has an expanded automatic Core Group and a separate supplier application route.
Eligibility and applications by location | ||
Where you live | Route | What to do |
|---|---|---|
England or Wales | Core Group | Look for a government letter and respond if it requests information. |
Scotland, Core Group | Automatic matching | Read the letter. You normally do not submit a supplier application. |
Scotland, Broader Group | Application to ScottishPower | Apply during its current window if you meet the criteria. |
Northern Ireland | Not covered by Warm Home Discount | Check Northern Ireland support instead. |
Who qualifies in England and Wales?
The assessment uses your circumstances on 23 August 2026. You need a participating electricity supplier and a qualifying benefit. The benefit recipient, their recognised partner or legal representative must be named on the electricity bill. The current main scheme benefit list is:
Pension Credit, including Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit.
Income related Employment and Support Allowance.
Housing Benefit.
Universal Credit.
This follows the 2026/27 government eligibility statement. Park Homes has separate rules, explained below.
What are Scotland's Core Group rules for 2026/27?
Scotland's automatic route now extends beyond Pension Credit Guarantee Credit. The table explains the benefit conditions in Schedule 1 of the 2026 regulations. The electricity account and qualifying date requirements also apply. Check the benefit award itself, including any premiums or work capability decision.
Scottish Core Group benefit conditions | |
Benefit or support | Additional condition |
|---|---|
Pension Credit | Either element qualifies. No extra benefit condition. |
Universal Credit | A disabled child or qualifying young person addition qualifies regardless of work status. Otherwise, you must not be employed or in gainful self employment, and must either have responsibility for a child under five who normally lives with you or have limited capability for work or for work and work related activity. |
Income Support or income based Jobseeker's Allowance | A child under five who normally lives with you; or a pensioner, higher pensioner, disability, severe disability, enhanced disability or disabled child premium. |
Income related Employment and Support Allowance | A child under five who normally lives with you; a pensioner, severe disability or enhanced disability premium; or a qualifying work capability determination. Initial assessment status alone is excluded. |
Support for Mortgage Interest loan | A loan based on Pension Credit entitlement; or one based on Income Support, income based JSA or income related ESA, with a child under five who normally lives with you or the corresponding benefit premium listed above. |
For the ESA route, qualifying work capability means the formal limited capability for work or work related activity conditions in the regulations. Read Schedule 1 of the Warm Home Discount Scotland Regulations 2026 for the exact legal tests. A qualifying partner's benefit or recognised legal representative can also be relevant.
If you are of State Pension age, the GOV.UK Pension Credit calculator can help you check possible entitlement. A calculation is separate from a benefit award or Warm Home Discount decision.
What are ScottishPower's Broader Group criteria?
The Broader Group is for eligible Scottish households outside the automatic route. You or your partner must receive a listed benefit. ScottishPower requires an electricity account for a Scottish property when you apply and requires you to remain its customer until payment. Its published benefit list includes:
Pension Age Disability Payment and Adult Disability Payment.
Universal Credit, Income Support and income based Jobseeker's Allowance.
Income related Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit.
Armed Forces Independence Payment and Carer's Allowance.
Child Disability Payment and Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance.
The public Broader Group criteria checked did not publish a separate cash income ceiling. Use your current benefit name and the live form's questions. ScottishPower may verify the details with DWP or request evidence through its delivery partner, Charis Grants.
Funding is limited. ScottishPower reviews applications after its window closes. Apply while the form is open, keep your evidence ready and meet any document deadline.
How to complete the application
Check your route first. The expanded Scottish Core Group may cover you automatically this year.
Find your electricity account number and postcode. The public form starts with these details.
Answer using current records. Use the names and benefit details shown on your account and award notice.
Save proof of submission. Keep the confirmation screen, date and reference number. Save a screenshot if available.
Watch for evidence requests. Check post and email, including the junk folder.
Report changes. Tell ScottishPower about a move, account number change or relevant household change.
The initial form is publicly accessible. A customer account login is not required simply to reach that first page.
Open ScottishPower's Broader Group Form
This form is for the Scottish Broader Group. Core Group customers normally receive the rebate through automatic matching.
When will ScottishPower pay the discount?
Eligible rebates must be delivered by 31 March 2027. ScottishPower says most payments arrive between November and January. There is no fixed number of days between a letter or application and payment. An acknowledgement confirms receipt of an application, rather than approval or account credit.
How ScottishPower delivers the £150 | ||
Account or meter | Delivery method | What to check |
|---|---|---|
Credit or Direct Debit | Electricity account credit | Transactions and statements. |
Smart prepayment | Credit added to the meter | Meter balance and payment history. |
Traditional prepayment | Barcode voucher | Delivery details, redemption instructions and expiry date. |
Use a voucher promptly. If it is missing, damaged or expired, contact ScottishPower and ask what it can do. Do not discard it or assume a replacement is automatic.
Our guide to Warm Home Discount payment timing explains the stages between confirmation and delivery.
What should you do if the discount has not arrived?
Choose the contact route for your stage. The government handles Core Group eligibility checks and missing letters. ScottishPower handles its Broader Group applications and delivery of rebates it is responsible for paying. Keep your account number, application reference and any government letter ready.
Warm Home Discount contact details | |
Your issue | Contact |
|---|---|
No expected Core Group letter by early January | Government helpline: 0800 030 9322, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Make contact before 26 February 2027. |
Letter asks for more information | Follow the instructions and deadline on the letter. |
ScottishPower application, account credit or voucher query | ScottishPower customer service: 0345 270 0700. Its official contact page also offers webchat. |
Confirmed rebate still missing after 31 March | Ask the responsible supplier to investigate through its complaints process. |
The ScottishPower number is its general customer service route, not a separately verified dedicated WHD line. Its official contact page lists current channels.
For an eligibility check, start with the official Scottish eligibility guidance or the England and Wales statement above. If a Core Group letter is missing, follow the government's current checking and helpline instructions. Scottish Broader Group applicants contact their supplier about their application.
Do not confuse deadlines: 26 February is the government information deadline. It is not ScottishPower's Broader Group closing date. No fixed supplier closing date was published on the public pages checked.
Can you switch supplier while waiting?
For the automatic Core Group, the participating supplier serving you on 23 August 2026 normally remains responsible for payment. Broader Group applicants must stay with ScottishPower until it pays the rebate. Ask about the consequences before switching or closing an account.
A Broader Group application does not automatically transfer. A new supplier may require a new application under its own rules and window, with limited funding. If you move, keep your old account number and update your contact details.
What other ScottishPower and Scottish support is available?
Warm Home Discount is one form of help. ScottishPower offers payment support and a Hardship Fund for eligible customers, while Scottish winter benefits follow separate rules. Home improvement grants address the property itself. Check each route separately rather than treating one approval as approval for all support.
Payment plans: ask ScottishPower about an affordable arrangement if you cannot meet your bills.
ScottishPower Hardship Fund: eligible applicants may receive help reducing or clearing energy debt. See its help paying your bill guidance.
Priority Services Register: extra practical and communication support for eligible customers. It is not an automatic cash rebate. Read ScottishPower's Priority Services Register guidance.
Winter Heating Payment: a separate Scottish benefit for eligible low income households with extra heating needs. It is not triggered by a cold spell. See mygov.scot Winter Heating Payment guidance.
Pension Age Winter Heating Payment: Scotland's replacement for Winter Fuel Payment. It has its own age, residence and payment rules. See the official payment guide.
For property improvements, our heating grants Scotland guide explains the main routes to explore.
What if you pay a park owner for electricity?
A household without its own direct electricity supplier account may need the separate Park Homes Warm Home Discount route. Follow the government scheme overview to the current Park Homes application. Do not use the ScottishPower form simply because the park buys electricity from ScottishPower.
How can you avoid application and payment problems?
Check that names, addresses and account numbers match current records.
Save the submitted form's confirmation, date and reference.
Reply to genuine evidence requests before their deadline.
Read voucher expiry and redemption instructions immediately.
Keep old account details after a move or supplier switch.
Before the next scheme year, review names on the electricity account and check the newly announced qualifying date. Updating details now does not backdate eligibility.
Warm Home Discount safety checks
Use the supplier's official website or contact details on a genuine bill. Do not pay a fee to release the rebate or share account passwords. Verify unexpected document requests independently. The GOV.UK Warm Home Discount guide explains the normal scheme process.
Frequently asked questions
Is ScottishPower Warm Home Discount open?
Its public application form was open on 23 October 2026. The Broader Group window can close, so check the supplier page when you are ready to apply.
What is the ScottishPower Warm Home Discount phone number?
ScottishPower lists 0345 270 0700 for customer service. Use it for supplier application and delivery questions. Core Group eligibility and missing government letters go to 0800 030 9322.
What is the ScottishPower Warm Home Discount closing date?
No fixed 2026/27 Broader Group closing date was published on the public pages checked. The February government helpline deadline and March payment deadline are separate.
Can I get it on Universal Credit?
Universal Credit is a qualifying England and Wales benefit. Scotland's automatic route has the extra conditions shown above. Universal Credit is also listed for ScottishPower's Broader Group.
What if my ScottishPower Warm Home Discount was not received?
Check whether eligibility or payment is outstanding. Contact the government about a missing Core Group letter, and ScottishPower about its application decision, account credit or voucher.
What if my prepayment voucher expires?
Contact ScottishPower promptly with the voucher details. Ask whether it can reissue the credit. Keep the voucher and any delivery messages until the issue is resolved.
Can the rebate go on my gas bill?
ScottishPower allows customers with separate gas and electricity accounts to request a transfer to gas. With one combined bill, it says a transfer is unnecessary.
Is the £150 paid monthly?
No. It is one rebate for the scheme year. Having gas and electricity with ScottishPower does not create two separate awards.
For a separate enquiry about home energy improvement funding, use InstantGrant's checker. It does not submit a Warm Home Discount application.
