EDF Warm Home Discount 2026/27: How Much Is It?

How Much Is the Warm Home Discount With EDF in 2026/27?

The EDF Warm Home Discount is worth £150 for winter 2026 to 2027. It is a one off credit added to an eligible customer’s energy account rather than money paid into a bank account. EDF is participating in the current scheme, but being an EDF customer does not automatically make every household eligible.

Important: InstantGrant is an independent grant information and application support service. We are not EDF, the UK Government, Ofgem or an energy supplier. We do not administer the Warm Home Discount or decide who receives it.

About This EDF Warm Home Discount Guide

This guide explains the confirmed Warm Home Discount rules for EDF customers in England, Wales and Scotland. It covers the £150 amount, current eligibility, meter payment methods, supplier switching and missing credits. Rules are different in Scotland, and EDF may update its customer instructions as the winter payment period begins.

How Much Is the Warm Home Discount From EDF?

Eligible EDF customers receive one £150 Warm Home Discount for the 2026 to 2027 scheme year. The amount does not increase because a household receives several qualifying benefits or has more than one eligible resident. A household normally receives one rebate through its qualifying domestic electricity account.

The discount can reduce the balance on your electricity account. If EDF supplies both your gas and electricity, you may be able to ask for the credit to be placed on your gas account instead. Contact EDF before the rebate is processed if this would help you more.

Is EDF Taking Part in the Warm Home Discount?

Yes. EDF is included in the scheme for winter 2026 to 2027. This means eligible EDF electricity customers can receive the £150 rebate. Participation alone does not confirm eligibility because the household must also satisfy the benefit, account holder and qualifying date conditions.

The government’s official participating energy supplier list includes EDF for winter 2026 to 2027. Be careful with old online articles that only list suppliers from an earlier winter.

As of 28 September 2026, parts of EDF’s public Warm Home Discount information still displayed dates from the 2025 to 2026 scheme. Applicants should use the current national rules and check EDF’s page again when its full winter instructions are published.

Who Qualifies for the EDF Warm Home Discount?

Eligibility depends on where you live. In England and Wales, most qualifying households are identified through government data matching. Scotland has an automatic Core Group and a separate Broader Group. In every nation covered, the electricity account and benefit records must match the relevant scheme conditions.

EDF Customers in England and Wales

For winter 2026 to 2027, you normally qualify if you were an EDF electricity customer on 23 August 2026, you or your recognised partner received an eligible means tested benefit, and the benefit recipient, partner or legal representative was named on the electricity account.

Qualifying benefits include:

  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

  • Pension Credit Savings Credit

  • Universal Credit

  • Housing Benefit

  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income Support

Most eligible EDF customers in England and Wales do not submit an application. The Department for Work and Pensions matches benefit records with electricity supplier records and tells EDF which qualifying accounts should receive the rebate.

The Property Test Has Been Removed

The former high cost to heat property test is no longer part of the main England and Wales eligibility assessment. This means households should not be rejected simply because their property size, age or construction fails an estimated energy cost test used in earlier scheme years.

Older articles may still say your property must achieve a particular energy cost score. That information is outdated for the current scheme. The key conditions are now the qualifying benefit, participating supplier, account name and qualifying date.

EDF Customers in Scotland

Scotland has separate Warm Home Discount regulations. Its Core Group now covers several qualifying benefit routes, although additional conditions can apply to some benefits. Households identified through the Core Group receive the £150 automatically.

EDF also operates a Scottish Broader Group for some low income or vulnerable customers who are outside the automatic group. These customers must apply directly to EDF. Funding and places can be limited, so an eligible application should be submitted promptly after EDF opens its application window.

Do You Apply for the EDF Warm Home Discount?

Most eligible EDF customers in England and Wales do not apply. The payment is usually arranged through government data matching. Some people receive a letter asking them to provide missing information. Scottish Broader Group customers normally apply directly through EDF when applications open.

Do not submit repeated forms to unofficial websites. An England or Wales customer who is already matched does not improve their chance of payment by completing a commercial application form.

When Will EDF Pay the Warm Home Discount?

Warm Home Discount payments are made during the winter scheme period. Your £150 may appear at a different time from another EDF customer’s credit because account matching and meter payment methods vary. All valid rebates should be delivered within the official scheme timetable ending on 31 March 2027.

A qualifying letter does not always mean the credit will appear on the same day. EDF must receive and process the matched customer information before applying the rebate. Credit meter customers may not see it until their next bill is produced.

If a letter says that more information is required, the payment may be delayed until the household completes the required identity or account check. Use the deadline printed in the letter rather than relying on dates from a previous winter.

How EDF Pays the £150 Discount

The payment method depends on your EDF meter and account type. A credit meter customer normally receives an account credit. Smart pay as you go customers receive meter credit electronically. Traditional prepayment customers may receive a voucher that must be redeemed before its expiry date.

EDF Credit Meter Customers

EDF adds the £150 to your electricity account. It should appear in your online account and on a following bill. It reduces the amount owed or increases the credit balance. It is not transferred to your bank as a separate benefit payment.

EDF Smart Pay As You Go Customers

The credit is normally sent directly to the smart prepayment meter. If EDF says it has paid the rebate but the balance has not changed, check the top up history in MyAccount or the EDF app. EDF may provide a transaction reference that allows the credit to be entered manually.

EDF Traditional Prepayment Customers

A customer using a key or card meter may receive a £150 voucher. Follow the redemption instructions and check the expiry date immediately. Make sure EDF has your current postal address, email address and telephone number so that the voucher is not sent to old contact details.

EDF Dual Fuel Customers

The Warm Home Discount is normally connected to the electricity account. If EDF supplies both fuels, you may be able to request that it is applied to the gas account. This can be useful when gas is your main heating fuel, but the transfer is not automatic.

What Happens If You Owe EDF Money?

Energy debt does not automatically remove Warm Home Discount eligibility. However, because the rebate is an account credit rather than cash, it may reduce an outstanding electricity balance. Check your bill carefully to see how EDF has recorded the £150.

If you expected the discount to provide winter meter credit but it appears to have been allocated differently, contact EDF and ask for a full account explanation. The statement should identify the Warm Home Discount as a separate credit.

The rebate does not replace wider support for unaffordable bills. Customers struggling with payments can ask EDF to review their repayment plan and discuss available hardship assistance.

What If You Switched Away From EDF?

For an automatic Core Group rebate, the participating supplier serving your electricity account on the qualifying date is normally responsible for payment. If EDF supplied you on that date and you later switched, EDF may still need to issue your rebate or voucher.

Contact EDF and make sure it has your current address, email and telephone number. This is particularly important for a former prepayment customer because EDF may be unable to send a voucher or payment instruction to an account with outdated contact details.

The position can differ for Scotland’s Broader Group. Direct applicants may need to remain supplied by EDF when the rebate is paid. Read the current EDF Broader Group terms before changing supplier after applying.

You can check other companies taking part in the scheme through InstantGrant’s guide to Warm Home Discount participating suppliers.

What If Your EDF Warm Home Discount Is Missing?

A missing payment may be caused by unmatched benefit and supplier records, a different name on the electricity account, an old address, a supplier switch or a prepayment voucher problem. Check each of these points before assuming EDF has rejected your rebate.

  1. Confirm that EDF supplied your electricity on the relevant qualifying date.

  2. Check that you or your recognised partner was named on the account.

  3. Review any government letter and respond if it requests more information.

  4. Check your EDF bill, MyAccount balance and payment history.

  5. For smart pay as you go, check whether a manual transaction reference is available.

  6. For a traditional meter, search for a posted or emailed voucher.

  7. Contact EDF if the expected credit is still missing.

If the issue involves government data matching rather than EDF account processing, use the Warm Home Discount helpline information printed in your letter. Do not wait beyond the stated deadline.

The EDF £150 Discount That Customers Often Confuse With WHD

The Warm Home Discount is a fixed £150 rebate for eligible households. It is separate from the average reduction in household energy costs introduced through national policy changes from April 2026. EDF explains that wider saving through lower prices rather than a separate £150 account credit.

Support

How it works

Who receives it

Warm Home Discount

One £150 account rebate

Households meeting the eligibility rules

Wider 2026 bill reduction

Policy costs are reduced through energy prices

Benefits vary according to tariff and energy use

An eligible EDF household can benefit from both. Receiving lower energy prices does not replace the separate Warm Home Discount rebate.

EDF Warm Home Discount Safety Checks

You should not have to pay a fee to receive the Warm Home Discount. Most eligible EDF customers in England and Wales are identified automatically. A message that requests an application charge, card payment, online banking password or remote access to your device should be treated as suspicious.

  • Check the sender’s email address carefully.

  • Do not open unexpected payment links.

  • Access EDF MyAccount by typing the website address yourself.

  • Do not give a caller a smart meter code unless you contacted EDF through an official channel.

  • Keep your government eligibility letter and EDF bill together.

A genuine account credit should be visible on your EDF statement or payment history. If you are uncertain, contact EDF using the number shown on your bill rather than a number supplied in an unexpected message.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the EDF Warm Home Discount?

The EDF Warm Home Discount is £150 for winter 2026 to 2027. It is normally credited to the eligible household’s energy account rather than paid as cash.

Is EDF participating in the 2026 to 2027 scheme?

Yes. EDF is included in the official list of participating energy suppliers for winter 2026 to 2027.

Do EDF customers need to apply?

Most eligible customers in England and Wales do not apply because government data matching identifies them automatically. Some Scottish customers must apply to EDF through the Broader Group.

When will EDF pay the £150?

Payments are made during the winter scheme period and should be completed by 31 March 2027. The exact date depends on account matching and meter type.

Will EDF pay the discount into my bank?

No. EDF normally applies it to the energy account, smart meter or traditional prepayment meter through a voucher. The standard rebate is not a bank payment.

Can I get two EDF Warm Home Discounts?

No. A household normally receives one £150 discount for the scheme year. Receiving several qualifying benefits does not create several rebates.

Can I receive the discount if I owe EDF money?

Having an outstanding balance does not automatically remove eligibility. The £150 may reduce the amount owed because it is applied as account credit.

What happens if I switched from EDF?

If EDF supplied your electricity on the qualifying date, it may remain responsible for your Core Group payment. Give EDF your current contact details so it can send the credit or voucher.
